John B. Henck
(20 Oct 1815 - 3 Jan 1903)
American civil engineer and classicist who wrote the well-respected Field-Book for Railroad Engineers (1854). His career began as a professor of Latin and Greek, but in 1847, he turned to the study and construction of railroads. He was professor of civil engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1865 until his retirement in 1881.
