Greenpeace
(Oct 1969 - )
An independent global campaigning organisation that acts to change attitudes and behaviour, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace. It was founded by several members of the Don't Make A Wave Committee, a Canadian environmentalist group, in 1969. They decided to change their organization's name to Greenpeace to emphasize their goal: to create a greener, more peaceful world through non-violent ways and tactics.

Science Quotes by Greenpeace (1 quote)
It wasn't his [the captain of the Exxon Valdez] driving that caused the Alaskan oil spill. It was yours.
— Greenpeace
Caption, under a picture of Captain Joseph Hazelwood, in Greenpeace full-page advertisement, in various world newspapers, including New York Times (25 Feb 1990).
In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion.
(1987) --
