Henri Rendu
(24 Jul 1844 - 16 Apr 1902)
French physician who published 100 medical articles, and edited the Bulletin de la Société anatomique de Paris (1873-74). Medical eponyms associated with him are Rendu's tremor and Rendu-Osler-Weber disease. Among his ancestors was Louis Rendu, famous as the first to describe the laws of movement of glaciers. Thus Henri followed the family tradition when in his early life he pursued natural history, and researched the tertiary layers around Rennes. He turned to the study of medicine in Oct 1865. Throughout his life, he maintained an interest in natural history, especially botany, mathematics and geology

The best way to learn to swim is to dive.
— Henri Rendu
Advice to his medical students

In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion.
