Otto Neurath
(10 Dec 1882 - 12 1945)
Austrian sociologist whose fields spanned sociology, economic and social planning, scientific method, history of science and statistical theory. He was interested also in visual education and promoted pictograms he called isotypes (an acronym for International System of TYpographic Picture Education, c.1935). These non-realistic symbols used as units of representation in statistical charts. After him, theses have evolved in their applications, such as silhouette forms on road signs.

— Otto Neurath
In Otto Neurath, Empiricism and Sociology (1973), 217.
In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion.
