organic chemist whose interest in organic photochemistry arose during research at Oxford University. He became a lecturer in Chemistry at the Open University. By the time he wrote Introduction to Organic Photochemistry (1986), his focus was on the role of photochemistry in a range of biological processes involving proteins.
