Frances Seymour

environmentalist who was Director General of the Indonesia-based Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) from 2006-2012. Seymour then joined the Center for Global Development as a Senior Fellow, where she began leading a project designed to create global consensus on the importance of forest conservation to averting catastrophic climate change. Her links to the rainforests of Southeast Asia date back to the early 1980s when she worked on USAID-funded agroforestry projects in the Philippines.

Forests regulate hydrological services including the quantity, quality, and timing of water available for irrigation. Forest-based bats and bees pollinate crops. Forests mitigate impacts of climate change and extreme weather events at the landscape scale.
