Science Fair Quotes (7 quotes)

Although a science fair can seem like a big “pain” it can help you understand important scientific principles, such as Newton’s First Law of Inertia, which states: “A body at rest will remain at rest until 8:45 p.m. the night before the science fair project is due, at which point the body will come rushing to the body’s parents, who are already in their pajamas, and shout, “I JUST REMEMBERED THE SCIENCE FAIR IS TOMORROW AND WE GOTTA GO TO THE STORE RIGHT NOW!”
'Science: It’s Just Not Fair', Miami Herald (22 Mar 1998)

I’ve said many times before, we’ve got to celebrate the winners of our science fairs as much as we celebrate the winners of football or basketball or other athletic competitions, because young scientists, mathematicians, engineers, they’re critical to our future.
From remarks at the fifth White House Science Fair, in Press Release (23 Mar 2015).
Science quotes on:  |  Basketball (4)  |  Celebrate (21)  |  Competition (45)  |  Critical (73)  |  Engineer (136)  |  Football (11)  |  Future (467)  |  Mathematician (407)  |  Scientist (881)  |  Winner (4)  |  Young (253)

If we are recognizing athletic achievement, we should also be recognizing academic achievement and science achievement. If we invite the team that wins the Super Bowl to the White House, then we need to invite some Science Fair winners to the White House as well.
Speech (7 Feb 2012) in the East Room of the White house. 'Remarks by the President at the White House Science Fair'

Several of the young people here [at the fifth White House Science Fair] are first-generation Americans. Their parents came here, in part, so their kids could develop their talents and make a difference in the world. … America is going to be stronger and smarter and healthier, and a much more interesting place because of you.
From remarks at the fifth White House Science Fair, in Press Release (23 Mar 2015).
Science quotes on:  |  America (143)  |  American (56)  |  Child (333)  |  Develop (278)  |  Difference (355)  |  Healthy (70)  |  Interest (416)  |  Parent (80)  |  Place (192)  |  Smart (33)  |  Strong (182)  |  Talent (99)  |  White House (6)  |  World (1850)

The science fair has long been a favorite educational tool in the American school system, and for a good reason: Your teachers hate you.
'Science: It’s just not fair', Miami Herald (22 Mar 1998)

This is our fifth White House Science Fair. And every year, I walk out smarter than I walked in, because … these young scientists and engineers teach us something beyond the specific topics that they’re exploring. They teach us how to question assumptions; to wonder why something is the way it is, and how we can make it better. And they remind us that there’s always something more to learn, and to try, and to discover, and to imagine—and that it’s never too early, or too late to create or discover something new.

We [are] God’s forgotten Science Fair project, left to grow mold.
In Haunted: A Novel (2005), 331.
Science quotes on:  |  Forgotten (53)  |  Mold (37)

Carl Sagan Thumbnail In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion. (1987) -- Carl Sagan
